March 6-8 turned to be a great success for Walker Valley High School's DECA chapter. Haley Nichols and Nikki Casson, students in the Marketing program, competed at the student organization's state competition March 6-8. They were in the top 5 in the Sports and Entertainment Team event which means in April they will represent Walker Valley in Louisville, Kentucky at the International Level.
The students worked very hard preparing for the competition. Their event consisted of a 100 question test and a 30 minute role play dealing with sports or entertainment marketing. The role play was over sponsorship which was the last topic learned before the students left for competition.
DECA and the marketing classes have only been offered at Walker Valley for two years. Both years Walker Valley has produced state winners and competed at International competition. We are accomplishing much more than we ever imagined with the marketing classes and DECA, Jayla Blanton, Walker Valley Marketing teacher and DECA Advisor.
The students will compete at International Competition April 24-27 in Louisville, Kentucky. Congratulations to Casson, Nichols and Chris Outlaw, who was on the Hospitality Committee at competition, on representing Walker Valley successfully.
